Good morning, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans. Hope you had a great holiday season!!
Here’s some news that just popped up on my timeline – it’s getting real, folks – college sports gambling is likely coming to Virginia:
Read the RFQ/P to learn more about what the city expects of anyone proposing a resort casino in the City of Richmond: https://t.co/Y98F7sYSVb. This RFQ/P was informed by the priorities outlined in the first community survey, like living wage jobs and new tax revenue. 2/2 pic.twitter.com/TaR6rzsk0l

So, I took a small look through the Request for Quotes (RFQ) Proposal (P) and here are some nuggets from the RFQ/P:
- Professional and college sports gambling is part of the RFQ/P.
- § 58.1-4128. Prohibition on persons under 21 years of age placing wagers and sports betting on youth sports; penalty. A. No person shall wager on or conduct any wagering on the outcome of a game pursuant to the provisions of this chapter unless such person is 21 years of age or older. No person shall accept any wager from a person under age 21. B. No person shall wager on or conduct any wagering on the outcome of a youth sports game. No person shall accept any wager from a person on a youth sports game.
So you gotta be 21 to place bets.
This Richmond casino proposal will likely be on the November 2021 ballot as a referendum.
This is good news for Richmond who really needs something like this – plus, I think it’s a good economic opportunity for Virginia. Richmond can get tourism from residents in the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Carolinas – and will provide better opportunities for lower income wager earners in Richmond.
