UNC’s offense saves their season against Wake Forest.

There’s really nothing North Carolina can do about their defense. It’s just bad, and any competent offense will shred it to pieces. Wake Forest dropped 53 on North Carolina. It’s the 4th time this year, UNC has given up more than 30 points.  The Deacs had a 45-24 2nd half lead and ended up losing because the Tar Heels have an explosive offense with multiple future NFL players.

In the middle of the 3rd quarter as Wake Forest went up 21, I tweeted this for a personal Old Takes Exposed.

I didn’t think UNC was done scoring, but I didn’t see enough stops for the North Carolina defense. Well the UNC defense came up with just enough holds, and the Tar Heel offense did the rest.

Sam Howell was spectacular, throwing for 550 yards.

Dazz Newsome and Dyami Brown and 100 yards receiving. Javonte Williams had over 100 yards rushing.

We’ve told you all year along about North Carolina’s offense and it’s talent. Saturday it saved the Tar Heel’s season. A loss would have dropped the Tar Heels to 5- 3 and a top 25 ranking would be a distant memory. With Notre Dame and Miami next, UNC could have very well been looking at a 6-5 season which given all those future offensive NFLers would have been a huge disappointment for Mack Brown and the Heels.

Now the Tar Heels get 2 weeks to prepare for their biggest game in years with top 5 ranked Notre Dame coming to town. I don’t think the Heels can slow Notre Dame, but the Irish despite a good defense are vulnerable to quality passing offenses. The Heels definitely have that, and today kept their goals in front them.

If the Tar Heels win their next two games, and finish the season season 9-2, the could still reach the ACC Championship game. Notre Dame will need another loss, but it is not of the question the Heels could work their way back into the title game.

It hasn’t always been pretty especially with a very suspect defense this year, but Mack Brown is doing what he brought to do in Chapel Hill… making UNC one of the better teams in the ACC.
