Thursday the Pac 12 agreed to to play football again this fall.
The Pac-12 will play fall football after all, targeting a Nov. 6 start, a seven-game season, and a Dec. 18 title game https://t.co/wPyc0skc7S pic.twitter.com/AudxYx3iDc

That’s great. I’m happy the Pac 12 is moving forward and putting a season together. We have a problem though.
And with three of those conferences (the Pac-12, Big Ten, and SEC) going conference-only, and the ACC going to limited out of conference play (and including Notre Dame as a “conference member”), and with all of these conferences playing differing amounts of games, it’s going to make for a very interesting College Football Playoff selection.
The Pac 12 playing only 8 games max while the Big 12, ACC, and SEC could have 11-12. The Big 10 is looking at 9 games including their conference championship game. How is the College Football Playoff going to manage. What if Oklahoma, Clemson, and Ohio State are undefeated, and Oregon goes 8-0 while Florida goes 10-1 losing to an undefeated Alabama team in the playoff?
There are multiple scenarios of something like this happening. We haven’t even got into if there are game cancellations. There’s only one equitable solution.
For 2020 the college football must expand to 8 teams. This would mitigate the asterisk that would come with any national champion for this year. Asking a team to win 3 games against top 8 competition would crown a worthy national champion and level the playing field of uneven regular season games.
If Oregon played only 8 games, but won 3 playoff games would anyone have a real issue with the Ducks winning it all? I wouldn’t.
It would also virtually guarantee that each Power 5 conference champion would make the playoff. Teams that play more games wouldn’t be penalized for losing 1 game, while teams that play fewer regular season games have a real opportunity to prove themselves.
The college football playoff must be flexible during this chaotic year.
Another idea being tossed around – bowl games for everybody.
Bowl games for all!!!
