#StayHealthy and practice social distancing
In the year of COVID-19, things are going to happen fast. Adjustments need to be prepared quickly. If you thought that games weren’t going to be postponed or that a sudden outbreak wasn’t going to happen then I question where you get your news from.
The real question is how schools and conferences respond.
It happened today with Virginia Tech.

It should be said that zero positive cases have been reported by Virginia. Certainly this was disappointing news, and Virginia Tech needs to internally investigate where their things broke down that led to this. It doesn’t necessarily mean Virginia Tech did anything wrong either. Good luck trying to wrangle in 18-22 year olds for an entire season at every single school playing fall sports.
That said how would the ACC respond? Would one outbreak have negative ramifications across the conference or would flexibility and good planning shine through? If it didn’t Virginia wouldn’t be playing until October 3rd.
It looks very much like the later came through in a just a matter of hours.
🚨 Schedule Updates 🚨
• UVA at VT postponed
• Duke at UVA set for Sept. 26
• Times and networks adjusted for MIA/UL and GT/UCFhttps://t.co/or8iQuCc5S— ACC Football (@ACCFootball) September 12, 2020
Miami and Louisville now becomes Gameday choice.
The response by the ACC was excellent, and the flexibility shown by the schools is what is needed. While the outbreak at Virginia Tech was unfortunate, frequent testing served it’s purpose. The outbreak at Virginia Tech will not extend to the Virginia football program.
The system in place worked very much as it should and it is encouraging going forward. Other conferences still playing football should take notice of how well the ACC handled this.
