If you don’t know the story of former Florida State star Warrick Dunn’s Habitat for Humanity charity work then you should.
This week Dunn furnished another home for a family in need. The family is located in the upstate of South Carolina, and the story was reported by goupstate.com.
“When I pulled up I was like, wow, when I saw everyone out here to support us and our family,” Ivery said. “I started crying in the car. This is a big day and I didn’t expect none of this (from Dunn’s organization) and I was just really excited.”
Ivery added when she walked through the front door, “My heart just dropped all the way to my feet. It’s just overwhelming and didn’t know they were doing all this for us. I’m just happy. It means everything for us. God just blessed me with everything and I’m just thankful for all the people in my life and everybody who helped us.”
That says it all right there. The difference Dunn is making in peoples’ lives is inspiring. That includes the influence Warrick Dunn has had on Dehsaun Watson who is paying the charity work forward as described in the article.
One of homes Dunn helped furnish in 2006 was for the single mother of then 10-year-old Deshaun Watson, who of course became a star quarterback at Clemson and now with the Texans. Watson has become heavily involved with Habitat for Humanity and was awarded the charity’s inaugural Next Generation Award in 2015 which honors young people who grew up in a Habitat house and now set an example for others.
“Deshaun is doing his part and I think he understands what he’s been through as a kid and his mom did her part,” Dunn said. “Now he’s taken his blessings and he’s really helping other families so I’m just thankful he’s someone who had gotten an opportunity and hadn’t forgotten where he came from and he’s still pushing forward and that says a lot about him as an individual.
In a year of constant bad news, here is a bit of news that brings hope.
Warrick Dunn and Deshaun Watson are a couple of men making a true difference in the world.
