With the COVID-19 raging across the United State, if we even have football, conferences need to be creative with their schedules.
@ByDavidTeel proposes a pod system in his article “Geographic ‘pods’ could be the key to salvaging ACC football season”.
One proposal league athletic directors are considering is dividing the ACC’s 15 schools — traditional football independent and partial conference member Notre Dame would be included — into three geographic pods of five. Teams would play each pod rival twice, accounting for eight games.
The aim then would be, in concert with the Southeastern Conference, to add a ninth, and hopefully 10th, contest for each school, preserving the four annual ACC-SEC in-state rivalries: Clemson-South Carolina, Florida State-Florida, Georgia Tech-Georgia and Louisville-Kentucky.
Within Teel’s article is multiple proposals for pod setups, and he also describes the travel cost savings that pods could provide.
Frankly, I think everything is an option at this point and pods are one possibility.
How about we really think outside the box?
How do we save college football this year? 64-68 power 5 team tournament. Max number of games would be 7.
Let’s go…

48 teams would play only 2 games on the season. That would significantly reduce travel costs for a lot of teams.
I’d certainly be for all conference games, maybe with pods over a playoff. That would be more games, but if we want an semblance of a season no format should be off the table.
