Who are the true college football blue-blood schools?

#StayHealthy and practice social distancing

Ah the great college football blue blood debate. @kyleumlang  put his top 35 #CFB teams of All-Time together, and I think he did a pretty good job.

The ACC is reasonably is well represented with Clemson at #15, Pittsburgh at #20, Miami at #22, Georgia Tech at #24, Florida State at #31, North Carolina at #32, and Syracuse at #33.

His methodology is sound with factors like national titles, Heisman winners, All-Americans, Draft picks, bowl wins among them.

The final blue-blood list ends up being a select few Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Alabama, Notre Dame, USC, Nebraska, and Texas.

Here’s where I have a different opinion.

Michigan and Nebraska last won a national title in 1997. That was 23 years ago. Notre Dame last won a national title in 1988 – a whopping 32 years ago. Georgia Tech, Washington, and Colorado all have more recent titles than the Irish.

I feel strongly about this, if you haven’t won a national title in 20-25 years you aren’t a blue blood… PERIOD. Notre Dame remains a brand, but can’t be included in any discussion about college football blue-bloods any longer.

Michigan and Nebraska are on the edge, but I wouldn’t include them either as a current era blue-blood. When was the last time we entered the post-season with either the Wolverines or Cornhuskers in the national title discussion?

I would have liked to have seen, while keeping most of the criteria, a heavy weight for recent success. I’m fine for a historical factor, but it should be weighted less as time passes.

@MattZemek gave his thoughts on Clemson as a current era blue-blood last year.  The Tigers are the most obvious choice to replace Michigan, Nebraska, or Notre Dame on a blue blood list. Other contenders could be are LSU, Florida, and Florida State.

All have National Titles within the last 20 years – An absolute minimum requirement for blue-blood inclusion to me.
