Clemson is the betting favorite to win National Title.

Clemson currently has the best National Championship odds, just ahead of Ohio State and a whole host of SEC teams: Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, and even Texas A&M way in the back. Oklahoma and Penn State are in the mix, too, but the real question is whether or not Clemson can wrestle the title away from the SEC this year.

Let’s not kid ourselves, if it wasn’t for Clemson the schools from the SEC would have won the last 5 National Titles. College Football has basically become the best school from the SEC vs Clemson. If you want to go even further, in the last seven years it’s been 3 NCAA Titles for schools from the ACC ( Clemson 2018, Clemson 2016, Florida State 2013) and 3 from the SEC (LSU 2019, Alabama, 2017, Alabama 2015).

Ohio State in 2014 was the only non SEC/ACC school to win a national title since way back in 2005 when Texas won the title.

Instantly you can eliminate certain teams from the picture from the top betting favorites. Notre Dame has managed to reach to be in the national title chase in recent years. Notably they made the 2012 National Championship game against Alabama, and the 2018 playoffs against Clemson. Both times Notre Dame was completely outclassed. Oklahoma multiple times has made the playoffs only to be usually blown out but their SEC opponent or Clemson.

Pac 12 schools can barely get into the playoff these days, and Penn State has never finished higher than 7th under James Franklin.

Don’t look for the national champion to come from the SEC East either. SEC East teams have lost 10 of their last 11 SEC Title games to their SEC West opponent, and that side of the conference hasn’t had a team win a national title since 2008.

If you are picking team to the win the national title that’s outside of Clemson, Ohio State, or the SEC West’s best 1 or 2 teams, you are really going against recent historical trends.

I’d be hardpressed to find someone else win next year’s title other than one of those 3 or 4 schools.
