Thursday night was the beginning of the NFL draft, and I really enjoyed it. It was almost like a regular sports night for the 1st time in over month. I applaud @ESPN and the @NFL for putting on the draft. Do you know who else had to enjoy the 1st round of the NFL draft? – Louisville’s first year football coach Scott Satterfield.
When Louisville offensive lineman Mekhi Becton was selected 11th by the New York Jets, it was yet another feather in the cap Scott Satterfield first year at Louisville. I tweeted this right after Becton’s pick.
Scott Satterfield took a program a shambles at Louisville, won 8 games, won a bowl game, ACC COY, and produced a 1st round pick. Pretty good first year…

It was actually a pretty good first year and a half, but who’s counting?
The Becton pick only continued to underscore how quickly Satterfield has turned things around at Louisville.
Becton was not a pre-season All-ACC pick in 2019. He was considered talented, with tremendous size at 6’7 and roughly 360 lbs. Becton had the look and raw ability to be a first round pick, but it was largely untapped potential. Satterfield and his staff turned Becton into the ACC’s best offensive lineman, and arguably the best offensive lineman in the NFL draft.
Satterfield couldn’t have asked for a better start at Louisville. Now he can walk into a recruits home and sell them on producing first round NFL picks in addition to his remarkable turn around season.
