Three Candidates for the Virginia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame

Good afternoon, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.  #StayHome

While we have some time on our hands before college sports begins, I think I’d dig back in the memory bank to see who really needs to be recognized for their athletic accomplishments.  And there really are some deserving candidates.  I recently blogged about how Jamon Gordon is very deserving.

Here is the criteria for induction into the Virginia Tech Athletics Hall of Fame.

The Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame was organized in 1982, to honor persons who have made great contributions to Athletics at the University.

Criteria:

  • Out of school for 10 years or more;
  • Nationally recognized athletic, coaching, or administrative ability;
  • Must be of good character and reputation/not have been a source of embarrassment to the university in any way;
  • Candidate must have graduated/or not, in good standing/with good graces of university officials;
  • Candidate must receive 6 out of 8 votes of the members of the Hall of Fame selection committee;
  • The career of the person outside of athletics will not have a bearing on the selection unless that person is otherwise qualified.

Towards that end, today, we’re going to drop three more candidates who deserve this great honor.  In three future blog posts, I’ll discuss this individuals in greater detail – and why they deserve induction.

1.) Queen Quedith Claye (Harrison) – Queen Harrison (2010 graduate) is one of the most influential athletes ever to step on campus at Virginia Tech.  Harrison earned multiple NCAA and ACC indoor and outdoor track and field awards.  She was also a perennial All-American.  She was Virginia Tech’s first female Olympian.

2.) Kristi Castlin – Kristi Castlin (also a 2010 graduate) participated in sprints and hurdles at Virginia Tech.  Castlin also earned multiple NCAA and ACC indoor and outdoor track and field awards (and was a perennial All-American).  She participated the 2016 Olympics (her first) in Brazlil.

3.) Kam Chancellor – 2010 Virginia tech graduate, Kam Chancellor, played quarter back, cornerback, and rover for the Hokies football team.  He was an outstanding free safety for the Hokies.  Kam was part of three ACC football championship teams – and he also won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks.

As I said earlier, discuss this three individuals in greater detail in three future blog posts – and why they deserve induction.
