ACC Basketball Coach Hotseat Rankings

With just few weeks remaining in the regular season, which coaches need a strong finish to improve their hotseat ranking? We go from coldest to hottest.

0 – Ice Cold Seat

1 – Still cool

2 – There’s smoke

3 – Getting Warm

4 – On Fire

5 – Start working on the resume

Mike Krzyzewski, Duke (23-5, 13-4) = 0

Coach K is untouchable

Tony Bennett, Virginia (12-7, 12-5) = 0

Tony Bennett just won the national title, and has turned Virginia into a national power.

Roy Williams, UNC (11-17, 4-13) = .1

Roy has not done a good job this year period, but he’s won too much to be on hotseat. Now if next year is a total bust…

Leonard Hamilton, FSU (24-4, 14-3) = .5

Despite the record and season, it’s seems Hamilton is always a bad loss from drawing the ire of at least a few FSU fans.

Chris Mack, Louisville (23-6, 14-4) = .5

Chris Mack is safe as can be, but sometimes his offense can go in some dry spells.

Mike Young, Virginia Tech (15-13, 6-11) = .5

It’s only Mike Young’s first year at Virginia Tech, and despite the recent swoon he’s still exceeded expectations.

Jim Boeheim, Syracuse (16-12, 9-8) = 1

Boeheim is an institution at Syracuse, but his recent teams haven’t been his best.

Jeff Capel, Pittsburgh (15-14, 6-12) = 1

Capel inherited a mess at Pittsburgh, but he’s only in year 2 and there’s signs of life.

Kevin Keatts, NC State (17-11, 8-9) = 1.5

Keatts seemed like a can’t miss coach, but he’s left a lot of wins out there this year. That’s a concern.

Mike Brey, Notre Dame (17-10, 8-8) = 2

Brey could be looking at missing the NCAAs for the 3rd straight year.

Jim Larranaga, Miami (14-13, 6-11) = 2

Jim Larranaga is a great coach. He’s going to finish under .500 in the ACC for the 2nd year in a row.

Brad Brownell, Clemson (14-13, 8-9) – 2.5

Clemson has done enough to ensure Brownell returns next year, but he has just 1 NCAA tournament appearance since 2011.

Josh Pastner, Georgia Tech (14-14, 8-9) – 4

Josh Pastner is not well liked by the Georgia Tech fanbase, but the Jackets have played better the last few weeks.

Jim Christian, Boston College (13-15, 7-10) – 4

Jim Christian hasn’t made the NCAA tournament in the 6 seasons he’s been at BC

Danny Manning, Wake Forest (12-15, 5-12) – 4

That recent win over Duke certainly helps Danny Manning’s cause, but he’ll need more to restore Deac fans faith in him.
