@HokiesWBB Poised For Its First NCAA Tournament Since 2006

Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.

Happy Presidents’ Day.  Wherever you are, I hope you had a chance to have a restful weekend (I know not everyone has this day off – so thanks to you all who are working).

A brief post here.  Kudos to the Kenny Brooks and the  Virginia Tech Women’s Basketball team who is poised for its first NCAA Tournament since 2006:

This is significant for the @HokiesWBB program.  Coming into this season, Kenny Brooks had a career record of 85-46, which is pretty damn good.  My sense is that the absolute floor for the Lady Hokies is a 20-9 overall record (which would put Virginia Tech at 10-8 in the ACC).  The test for the Hokies will be to remain focused on the trip to Notre Dame (who isn’t really that good this year). Virginia is going to give the Hokies everything they can handle; the Hoos will be extra motivated on their return trip to the Cassell.  Duke defeated Virginia Tech in overtime at Cameron Indoor Stadium (in Durham) so I believe the Hokies will be revved up for the rematch with the Blue Devils.  Louisville is very good on their home court – but they recently lost focus when they played Syracuse.  The short of it is, I think Virginia Tech has a chance to win every game if the team remains focused.  The Hokies have the 2nd best overall field goal percentage from three-point land in the ACC and is the best in the ACC at defending the three point shot.  Virginia Tech also has the 2nd best overall field goal percentage on defense.

The Hokies have a player that is going to keep them in a lot of games.  She can score on her own if she needs to – but she generally tried to keep everyone involved the offense.  Meet Taja Cole – Virginia Tech graduate student athlete and point guard (it is a nice luxury having a graduate student on your roster as a point guard).  I think she is a terrific hooper – I hope the nation gets to see her – and she gets drafted by the WNBA.

Be ready – an NCAA tournament bid is coming for the @HokiesWBB program.
