Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans. Gonna step out of the ACC tonight – and talk about Georgetown Men’s Basketball (I’m an alumnus of Georgetown – and I don’t write or talk about the Hoyas too often, but I will tonight).
Our friend, @BobbyBancroft, of @CasualHoya fame, asked a legit question on Twitter:
Final: Georgetown 73, No. 19 Butler 66
Hoyas now 6-1 at Hinkle Fieldhouse
Allen with 22 points
Blair, Wahab, Pickett all in double figures
Guess who’s back in the NCAA Tournament mix?
Hoyas improve to 15-10, 5-7
Best win under Ewing? No Mac or Omer

Yes, Georgetown’s two leading scores in Omer Yurtseven (NC State transfer) and Mac McClung (the pride of Southwest Virginia), were not not playing in this game today vs. #19 Butler. Both Yurtseven and McClung are out hurt. What did the Hoyas do without them (the Hoyas were playing with five scholarship players)? More on that below:
- The Hoyas had three guys, including Terrell Allen, Jahvon Blair, and Jagan Mosley, play 40 minutes (!!). Look, I know these guys are used to playing a lot of AAU basketball – and going hard for multiple games, but having three guys play 40 minutes is hard lol. Jamorko Pickett wasn’t far behind with 37 minutes on the court.
- The Hoyas had four guys score in double figures, including Terrell Allen, Jahvon Blair, Jamorko Pickett, and freshman Qudus Wahab (he is getting some really good minutes).
- Georgetown shot an insane 10 of 15 from three-point land. That’s ridiculous. That’s about 67% from beyond the arc. The Hoyas shot 52.1% overall.
- The Hoyas had only 7 turnovers. At one point in the game, the Hoyas didn’t have a turnover for 23 minutes. They were playing fast – loose – and you could tell that they were having fun. But for the most part, mistake-free ball.
- Incredibly, with only five scholarship players in the rotation for the most part, the Hoyas didn’t get out-rebounded in a big way. They only had five less rebounds than Butler.
- The Hoyas were working their butts off on defense – the switches were working well – but you can only do so much with a five player rotation on D.
Is this the best win in the Patrick Ewing era? I’d have to go through the past statistics to answer that question – but I can tell you I thought Butler was going win today – and they didn’t. And as Bobby said above, the Hoyas did this without their top two leading scorers – and they are leaving the State of Indiana in victorious fashion. Hoya Saxa!!
