Boston College was the latest ACC team to flop in their bowl game after going down 38-6 to Cincinnati. There will be plenty of time to discuss the ACC’s disappointing 4-6 bowl season. Clemson may yet still give the ACC one more win the National Title game, but the conference will still finish under .500 in their bowl games.
Back to Boston College, to be honest this wasn’t unexpected, Cincinnati is a very good team, and Boston College was without their star RB A.J. Dillon and their fired coach Steve Addazio.
BC also came in 6-6. The Eagles never were more than a mediocre team the entire season, and the loss left them 6-7.
There isn’t a lot to take from a game like this. Boston College was badly beaten, and they looked like a slow football team when compared to Bearcats.
A game like this just proves it was time for the Addazio era to end and the Jeff Hafley era to begin.
Clemson defeating Ohio State where Hafley was DC allowed this to happen sooner than Buckeye fans had wanted. It was nice of the Tigers to do the Eagles a solid and let Hafley start working on Boston College as soon as possible.
Hafley brings a nice pedigree to Boston College. He was born in the Northeast, was an assistant coach at Rutgers and Pittsburgh, and was assistant coach at the NFL level. This was before his time at Ohio State in 2019.
He doesn’t have any head coaching experience, but otherwise this looks like a good hire. Can he recruit well enough to help BC start turning the corner? He was known as one the best recruiters in the country, when he was at Ohio State.
After 7 years with Steve Addazio, Boston College had to make a move.
There’s no where to go but up for Boston College as they will enter the 2020 season as one of the ACC’s biggest question marks.
