Louisville’s Scott Satterfield locks up ACC COY with win over Syracuse.

I think most us already had Scott Satterfield as the clear front-runner for the ACC COY. Wake Forest Dave Clawson was right there through the first half of the season, but has lost ground in the 2nd of the season and lost the head to head game with Satterfield and Louisville. Dabo Swinney is doing so preposterously well at  Clemson a 10-0 start barely raises an eyebrow.

There’s also Virginia Tech’s Justin Fuente who’s fashioned a remarkable 2nd half turnaround for the Hokies, but with the Cardinal’s now 7-4 after beating Syracuse the ACC COY belongs to Satterfield.

We’ve said it several times this year, but Louisville was one of the worst teams we had ever seen in the ACC. Last year, we actually asked were they worst ACC team in the last quarter century?  With a 29.5 point losing scoring margin, Louisville was statistically the 2nd worst ACC team in the last 25 years. They were less than 1 point from being the very worst.

Whether Bobby Petrino and staff checked out and the players packed it in for the season, it was going to be a major rebuilding effort for Scott Satterfield. He had to institute his style, and completely makover the Cardinals from a mental standpoint. There was more talent than a 2-10 team, but anything more than a 3 or 4 game improvement seemed like the ceiling to most anyone who wasn’t a Cardinal fan. Even Cardinal fans had to admit there was a definitely a lack of depth at several positions on the field especially on defense.

Honestly I’m floored Louisville has a real chance to win 9 games this year, but here they are.

The transformation on offense has been incredible. Javian Hawkins may be the country’s best kept secret at RB, rushing for 1000 yards this season. Chatarius Atwell has been a 1000 yards receiver too. You won’t find many RB, WR combos better than that outside of Clemson in the ACC. Satterfield made Macale Cunningham into a QB you can build a team around.

You simply can’t enough good things about the job Satterfield has done this year at Louisville. He may not be done in 2019 either.
