NC State? What Happened against BC????

As I sit here and try to digest what happened in Chesnut Hill yesterday, I am still angry. What happened in that game, should not have happened, at all. From the inability to produce a run game against a team that gave up 328 yards rushing against Kansas. To being unable to tackle either one of the monsters that BC has in their backfield. NC State gave up 429 yards on the ground and 45 points.

It should also be noted that BC was starting a former preferred walk-on who was 4th string going into the spring and then 2 players ahead of him transferred.

There was no way that Grosel was going to beat NC State. So, NC State could only lose one way, which is by the run game. NC State knew what was coming and couldn’t stop it. I actually think that if the Boston College linemen told the NC State defense what was coming, NC State wouldn’t have been able to stop it.

The defense wasn’t the only problem yesterday. The offense has been an issue all season. From not being able to settle on a quarterback, to not being able to run the football consistently, to the wide receivers and the drops. The Co-OC experiment does not seem to have worked out. There is no rhyme nor reason to the NC State offense. I understand that with losing 2 receivers, a QB, and a Center to the NFL, and replacing 2 more All-ACC offensive linemen, that there was going to be a drop-off. The offense has no identity and there isn’t one thing that the offense does well.

Dave Doeren looked defeated when he met with reporters after the game. He looked like a coach who understood that this season is going to slip away. Going into this game, I would have said there is only 1 guaranteed loss left on NC State’s schedule. That was, of course, Clemson, November 9th in Raleigh.

After yesterday’s performance, I am not sure this team gets to bowl eligibility. People will say that I am being ridiculous, and I tell them to show me 2 more wins. After yesterday’s lack of offensive production, and the defensive issues that were exposed do you think that NC State can beat Wake Forest? Have you watched Louisville these last 2 weeks?

Scott Satterfield has that team believing in themselves and playing really good football. Georgia Tech? Maybe, but that game is in Atlanta and they just beat Miami. North Carolina? That is the definition of a 50/50 game. NC State could still win the games against Wake, Louisville, Georgia Tech, and UNC. However, NC State could lose all of those games as well.

I try to not be the “burn it all down, fire everyone” guy. I really try to. However, with the mess that the QB situation is, the lack of offensive identity, and the inconsistent play of the defense changes need to be made. Dave Doeren is a loyal guy, there is no doubt about that. He has stuck with Dave Huxtable who is the flashpoint of the fan’s anger. However, if this team doesn’t make a bowl game, serious consideration to the future of Dave Doeren. If somehow this team makes a bowl game, serious consideration still needs to be given to making changes to the coaching staff. Maybe bring in an offensive coordinator who has more experience in calling plays and has an offensive identity. Maybe look at Tulane’s offensive coordinator Will Hall.

Tulane’s offense is 13th in the country in Yards per Play and 19th in total offense. Doeren has to consider moving on from Huxtable, and a perfect candidate is out there from Doeren’s Wisconsin days. Chris Ash and Doeren have a relationship and Ash was just fired from Rutgers.
