Best and Worst case record for Virginia Tech football in 2019

Best / Worse Case Record for :

Louisville | Virginia | Miami | Duke | Georgia Tech | Boston College | Pittsburgh | Florida State | NC State | Clemson | Syracuse | North Carolina | Wake Forest

Virginia Tech
Justin Fuente is entering his 4th year at Virginia Tech, and the Hokies have fallen behind schedule. After winning 19 games in his first two years, the Hokies slipped to 6-7 last season. The off-season was marred by transfers and an SI.com story about some players actively trying to lose games.  If Virginia Tech doesn’t turn things around this season, Fuente could find himself very much on the hotseat. There will also be the emotion of playing for Bud Foster in his last season as DC at Virginia Tech.

Will Go 10-2 (7-1) if:
The defense returns to anything close to resembling a normal Bud Foster defense. The Hokies defense was in a word awful last year. They couldn’t stop anyone in the 2nd half of the season. If the defense improves at all, the offense has playmakers especially at WR. The WR unit might be ACC’s 2nd best after Clemson. Fuente still hasn’t named a starting QB, but the offense shouldn’t the group that holds Virginia Tech back.

The schedule outside of game Notre Dame looks very manageable. If the Hokies win at Boston College in week 1, they could be 4-0 heading to Miami. A game at Virginia looks difficult, but the Hoos haven’t beat Virginia Tech since 2003.

Will Go 7-5 (4-4) if:
The Hokies can’t find a running game, and the defense doesn’t improve enough. Sure the Hokies look great at WR, but the offensive line wasn’t anything special and the Hokies need some balance there. The QB situation is still unsettled, and if Fuente misfires on his choice, I don’t think the defense even if it is better can carry the team.

Virginia Tech has to go on the road to Notre Dame, Miami, Virginia, and Boston College. Even at home Lane Stadium has lost some of it’s intimidation factor in recent years. The schedule is soft enough, that Hokies should be able to make a bowl game even in the worst case.

    I EXPECT 10 wins.
    I’m hoping for 11.
Anything less than 9 is unacceptable.
