In the next few years, the ACC is going to lose some legendary coaching pillars of the conference. UNC’s Roy Williams and Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski are going to retire. Florida State’s Bobby Bowden retired in 2009, and there’s been a football coaching gap in conference since. Jimbo Fisher looked he might be that guy at Florida State, but he headed west to Texas.
For the ACC, I think it’s clear Clemson’s Dabo Swinney and Virginia’s Tony Bennett are going to be the ACC’s future coaching pillars. That doesn’t mean other coaches may not join them, but when it comes to the future of the ACC, Swinny and Bennett will be there.
What they say and do will carry more weight than arguably any other coaches in the ACC, and now they share a bond.
This is worth a listen for any Virginia and Clemson fan or any fan of someone that has persevered over criticism.

We know what Swinney overcame while at Clemson – “Clemsoning”. How do you overcome a word that defined your program for decade? Clemson was synonymous with underachievement, and Swinney was known as a coach with a gimmick. Dabo now has one of the two best programs in college football. Alabama’s only peer.
Tony Bennett couldn’t get it done in the post-season. The pace of his offense was too slow. Then there was the historic UMBC loss. Virginia only took one year to recover and become national champions.
I think these two just became life-long friends. A bond shared from a similar coaching struggles and success, a similar faith, and in general they just seem to just like each other.
If they aren’t there already, the two are on their way to becoming the ACC’s next coaching legends.
