ACC QUESTION of the WEEK : Which ACC football coach enters 2019 on the hot seat?
This question can easily be answered by process of elimination.
No first-year coach is on the hot seat for ACC football in 2019. Cross Miami, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, and Louisville off the list.
That leaves 10 possible answers.
Not Clemson. Not Syracuse. Not Pittsburgh after it won the Coastal.
That’s seven.
Not Duke or Virginia, where the coaches are doing good jobs.
That’s five.
Not North Carolina State, given a few nine-win seasons and the raising of the floor at that program.
That’s four.
Not Wake Forest, which is winning bowl games and making the grade.
Three.
Not Virginia Tech. Everyone can see that Justin Fuente hasn’t had depth or a lot of roster luck in recent seasons. He could be on the hot seat entering 2020 if 2019 goes off the rails, but he will not be fired this season.
Two.
It comes down to Willie Taggart of Florida State and Steve Addazio of Boston College.
Taggart, however, is in his second season. That should ordinarily mean a third season unless 2019 becomes a total disaster. Yes, if the program is stagnant enough that progress seems unlikely in 2020, the possible availability of a huge coaching name (Furman Crier? Turban Higher? Gergen Weyer?) could usher Taggart out the door.
I wouldn’t expect it, but it’s within the realm of possibility.
The best answer, though, has to be Addazio at Boston College. The 2018 season should have ended better than it did. The Eagles seem to have a very low ceiling and aren’t expanding their sense of what is possible. Moreover, a lot of losses on defense, especially in the secondary, make a losing 2019 season a real possibility.
Taggart? Maybe, but not likely. Steve Addazio is the No. 1 hot-seat candidate in the 2019 ACC.

Hotter than the rest maybe, but not particularly hot (IMO). The only one in danger of being fired if the 2019 goes badly is probably Taggart (although a bad season might at least turn up the temp on Justin Fuente).
