We’re all wondering it. What is going on at Virginia Tech with all the recent football transfers? Who better to an attempt an answer than the esteemed ACC journalist covering the Virginia area than @DavidTeelatDP.
In his recent article – Searching for context on rash of Hokies’ football transfers, Teel makes that attempt to understand what’s going on in Blacksburg. These quotes from that article summarizes things at Virginia Tech.
Individually, the departures are understandable — even quarterback Josh Jackson’s. But the constant turmoil within the program for 12-plus months is alarming, compromises depth and represents the largest challenge of Fuente’s tenure in Blacksburg.
It all speaks to a troubling vibe, culture even, within the program, one for which Fuente is responsible and needs to correct.
It’s a critical time for Justin Fuente and the Virginia Tech program. Fuente looked like a good hire. He won 19 games his first two years, but last year’s 6-7 season raises questions. Most knowledgeable football fans know the inexperience on the defensive side of the football. There’s no reason to panic, but the record plus all the transfers as Teels says creates a challenging year ahead for Virginia Tech.
Another sub-par season, and the heat will certainly rise on Fuente.
