Bowl Cancellation is an apt finish to Boston College season of what could have been.

Boston College jumped out to a 7-0 lead on Boise State, then due to lightening the First Responder Bowl delayed and then cancelled the game. That’s amateur hour organization from that bowl. They could read a weather forecast to cancel  the game for the rest of Wednesday, but couldn’t see the weather coming yesterday and move up the game up 2 or 3 hours? They could have asked the teams to play tomorrow, but I’m not aware that happened either. The ACC is not contractually tied to that game, and in future I’m not I’d agree to send at ACC team there.

That was a disservice to the fans, and players that made the trip.

For BC it was an apt finish to a season of what could have been. Sure the bowl cancellation wasn’t their fault, but the 0-3 finish was. Sitting at 7-2 and hosting Clemson for ESPN gameday, the Eagles were never heard from again. The loss to Clemson can be forgiven, but then there was the defeat at Florida State. It was the worst FSU team in some 40 years. Then there was a 3 TD loss at home to Syracuse. The loss to Syracuse is particularly stinging. Playing in the same division as Boston College, Dino Babers has surpassed BC in 3 short years at the helm.

Dino’s 9 win season this year, even before their bowl is already 2 games better than anything Steve Addazio has produced at Boston College.

Where does that leave Boston College? That’s a very difficult question. Steve Addazio has made BC competitive. This isn’t a bad program, but he has been there 6 years, and this season whether the bowl game was played or not should have been an 8 or 9 win season. 2018 was the season Boston College with the return of RB AJ Dillon was supposed to make a real move in the Atlantic.

It never materialized, and I get the feeling BC missed their window. Clemson will stay Clemson. NC State and Syracuse are trending upward. FSU certainly won’t stay down. Wake Forest doesn’t appear to be backing up either. Only Louisville appears to be multiple years behind Boston College.

Let’s put it this way…

2019 is a very critical year for Steve Addazio to show the BC program isn’t stuck in neutral. Another season of 7 wins or less season, and Boston College may be forced to consider other options to get the program jump started.
