We have to get used to early signing day in college football. So some schools can still pull things together by February, but have our winners and losers for the December 19 signing day.
Here are the ACC recruiting rankings from the 247 and Rivals.
Winners
Clemson
Another consensus top 10 class… Clemson just keeps rolling, and now they have gone national. Only 1 commit was from the state of South Carolina, as Clemson raided talent rich states Georgia and Florida. They got a LOI from every committed player. That’s incredible.
NC State
The Wolfpack got 19 of their 22 commits per 247 to sign today in a top 30 class that includes three 4 star players. The should keep NC State in the upper echelon of the ACC.
Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech despite a rough season, got 19 out of their 20 commits to sign today. Five 4 star players, is the 3rd most in the ACC. Justin Fuente did some work.
Georgia Tech\UNC
Georgia Tech and UNC didn’t have highly ranked classes. Neither were in the top 35 by 247 or Rivals, so why were they winners today? When you have a recent coaching change, a class can fall apart and leave you with a forgotten class. That didn’t happen to either school.
Despite the change in offensive philosophy Geoff Collins largely kept Georgia Tech’s class in-tact. They got a signing day flip from former Arizona commit Sylvain Yondjouen. They signed 18 players.
UNC flipped 4 Star QB Sam Howell from FSU today. Only 1 player didn’t sign their LOI with UNC today. Mack Brown still can work a little magic.
Losers
Florida State
Coming of their worst season in over 40 years, Florida State was fighting an uphill recruiting battle. They have a class currently in the top 15, but it wasn’t a good day. 5 commits didn’t sign their LOI, so if FSU is to get on the winner side they need most of these of guys. 5 star verbel Akeem Dent is one they are waiting on. 4 Star QB Sam Howell flipped to UNC. DE Derick Hunter flipped to Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M.
Miami
When you are Miami, you should never have a class ranked in the 30s. That’s where Miami is. A rash of recent de-commitments had the Canes scrambling. I read that a class of their de-commits would be ranked higher than their current class. Only 12 players signed today. They were highly regarded players, but we expected more from the Canes.
Louisville
Louisville has the worst Power 5 class in the country, and it is currently ranked 129 by 247. They signed just 4 players. It is the kind of class that set a program back another year or two. Bobby Petrino is the gift that keeps on giving. Scott Satterfield has long hard road of ahead. He didn’t care for much of Petrino’s class and let them know it.
Syracuse
Syracuse just had their best season in years, but couldn’t turn that into a great recruiting class. Both recruiting services had only Louisville worse in the ACC. It wasn’t all bad news for the Cuse. They did land two highly ranked linebackers, but there were still a lot of 2 star signees.
