Clemson’s Dabo Swinney needs to relax after fan criticism.

Clemson is 12-0 after a 21 point victory over arch-rival South Carolina. They are heavily favored to beat Pittsburgh in the ACC Championship Game and move on to the playoffs. What could be wrong in Tiger Town?

Well Dabo Swinney blasted Clemson fans and media that weren’t impressed by the 3 TD Victory.

These are some quotes from Post and Courier.

“The senior class has won 52 games and we’ve got people complaining. Give me a break. If 12-0 ain’t good enough, then it’s time to seek other places.

“And when you win by three touchdowns in a state championship and you’ve got people who can’t appreciate that? That’s really sad. Man that’s really sad. Just look around college football. There’s a lot of places out there that would love to have the program that we have here. I can assure that.”

Hmm…

Is Dabo Swinney underappreciated by Clemson fans or does he just need thicker skin?

Here is the article from TigerNet that is rumored to have started it all – “When a win feels like a loss”.

Look fans can be ugly. There’s story about some Clemson fans sending messages to Tiger players being none to complimentary of their performance. Under no circumstance should fans be contacting student athletes and attacking them for their play – PERIOD.

Readers of the blog know I went to Clemson and attend a lot of Clemson games. I was at the Clemson\South Carolina game, and many Clemson fans were unsatisfied with the way Clemson played. Is that wrong?

South Carolina shredded the Clemson defense like no one else this year. When you are Clemson you have much bigger fish to fry than a 6-5 South Carolina team. This game was never in doubt, and there was never a real concern that Clemson would lose, but the Tigers defensively did not play well. Dabo Swinney and DC Brent Venables would tell you that.

There is not a single Clemson fan that doesn’t appreciate what Dabo Swinney and Clemson have done. He’s revered and respected by every Clemson fan, but Dabo went too far in his protests.

His story has taken on a life of their own appearing all over the print media, SportsCenter, and Sports Talk Shows. Is Dabo going to leave? That’s not the kind of distraction you need going into the post-season.

If a few fans felt unsatisfied with a shaky defensive game is it really necessary to call out an entire fanbase adding a veiled threat at leaving? I respect Dabo Swinney protecting his players and program, but he’s blown this one out of proportion.

Minor criticisms of a game should not be confused for being ungrateful. Relax Dabo – Clemson loves you.
