3/4 Quarter of the season grades for each ACC football team.

Clemson : A+

Clemson is absolutely destroying everything in their path in recent weeks. They look as good as anyone in the country outside of Alabama. Frankly they look scary good.

Syracuse : A+

Syracuse is ranked #13 in the NATION. Are you kidding me? Dino Babers has Syracuse 7-2 and primed to be 8-2 after a game with reeling Louisville. That would set up an epic game with Notre Dame. Up to this point in the season, Syracuse fans couldn’t have asked for more.

NC State : A

NC State is 6-2 right now, and you have to feel good about them overall. The possibility to finish the regular season is there if NC State finishes 10-2. Their only losses are to Clemson and Syracuse – the highest ranked teams in the ACC.

Boston College : A

Boston College is about to play their biggest game in years when Clemson comes to town. They are 7-2 and on a 3 game winning streak. They are a tough hard nosed team, that’s in good position to have a great finish to the year.

Virginia : A-

Virginia was an A until that home hiccup against Pittsburgh. Still at 6-3 they are ahead of schedule, and very much alive in the ACC Coastal. Bronco Mendenhall has done a great job this year.

Duke  : B

Week to week it’s hard to peg Duke. They are 6-3 though and that’s solid despite a ton of injuries. If Duke can end up 8-4, they may improve their grade.

Pittsburgh : B

Some of Pittsburgh’s early blowout losses to UCF and Penn State hold Pitt’s grade back. There’s also an ugly loss UNC. That said this team is leading the Coastal, and have won 3 of their last 4 games. The only loss was a close defeat to Notre Dame. They are definitely trending up.

Georgia Tech : C+

The Yellow Jackets have been trying to pull up their grade all year. If they can get bowl eligible, I may give them at least a B-. They have won 4 of their last 5, and have started mowing down opponents with their run game. One of the second half of the season’s most improved ACC teams.

Virginia Tech : C

Virginia Tech is trouble. Injuries and shaky coaching have has Virginia Tech in a position where their season could fall apart. They still get a C because of a 3-2 coastal record, but that’s a team that’s barely hanging on.

Wake Forest : C-

Wake Forest is 4-5, but they give up points at alarming rate. Thank goodness they played Louisville and won. If Wake Forest can win at least 1 more game, I’d probably give them a passing grade for the regular season.

Miami : D

Mark Richt has wrecked his QB situation, and the season is already lost given the pre-season expectations. That Miami is 5-4 is the only really reason they don’t have an F.

Florida State : D-

Florida State is on their way to flunking the entire season. For a moment during the middle of the season, they showed some signs of life – otherwise they would have an F now. If they go winless with games against Notre Dame, BC, and Florida to finish the season, which seems likely, they get an F for the season.

North Carolina : F

It’s November, and North Carolina has won 1 game. To Larry Fedora’s credit, UNC hasn’t quit. They are still competing, but each week they find a new way to lose games. Western Carolina is a chance for a at least one more win.

Louisville: F

If there was a grade lower than an F, Louisville would have it. Each an opponent is setting a new record against. Clemson dropped 77 on them without breaking a sweat. They are 2-7, and may not stay within 3 TDs in any of their remaining games against Syracuse, NC State, and Kentucky. Bobby Petrino has done a horrible job, and this is one of the worst ACC teams in the last quarter century.
