Is 2018 Louisville the worst ACC football team of the last 25 years?

I was at the Clemson Louisville game today, and what I saw from Louisville had me thinking hard if there has ever been a worse ACC team – at least in the last 25 years.

Calling the game a simple blowout would be a big understatement. Louisville was so over-matched in this 77-16 blowout, that if Dabo Swinney had felt like it Clemson could have scored 100+ points. It was like Clemson was playing a bad FCS school. Embarrassing – doesn’t begin to describe this beatdown.

The losses Louisville is taking in the ACC this season are historical in nature. They gave up 66  to Georgia Tech, 56 to Wake Forest, and then 77 today against Clemson.

Louisville has lost all 6 of their ACC games by an average of 27.2 points.

Any ACC team that won a conference game is instantly ahead of this Louisville. How do the 2018 Cardinals compare to other winless ACC teams since 1993?

Georgia Tech 1994    – Average ACC loss 13.8 points

Wake Forest 1995 –  Average ACC loss 20.7 points

Duke 1996 – Average ACC loss 17.2 points

Duke 1997 –  Average ACC loss 15.8  points

Duke 2000 – Average ACC loss 23.1  points

Duke 2001 – Average ACC loss 28.3  points

Duke 2002 – Average ACC loss 14.7  points

Duke 2005  – Average ACC loss 30.1 points

Duke 2006 – Average ACC loss 19.5  points

Duke 2007 – Average ACC loss 16.7  points

NC State 2013 – Average ACC loss 16.7  points

Virginia 2013 – Average ACC loss 18  points

Boston College 2015 – Average ACC loss 9.3  points

So Louisville – historically you aren’t the worst ACC team in the last quarter century, but you are pretty close to taking the title. With solid ACC teams Syracuse and NC State left, I feel like you can claim the title. Now some of those Duke teams didn’t win a single game against anyone, but Louisville wins over Western Kentucky and Indiana State hardly catch anyone’s attention.

It won’t be easy, but you have a shot at the being one of the ACC’s worst teams ever. I think Bobby Petrino is the coach that can get it done for you.

Then Louisville find the money to buy him out… Your program is better than this.
