Syracuse’s offense continues to roll after dropping 51 on NC State.

NC State fans are quick to blame their defense after Syracuse dropped 51 on them. They should be mad too, but there’s some context to what happened. Nobody has stopped the Syracuse offense all season, except for Clemson pulling the trick in the 2nd half of their game. That Clemson defense is arguably the nation’s best and most talented, and even they struggled with the Syracuse offense for a half. They are the only team to hold Syracuse under 30 points.

They are averaging nearly 44 points a game, which put them in the top 10 in the country in scoring offense. They are putting up nearly 500 yards a game. This is the culmination of a fully instituted Dino Babers offense in year 3 of his tenure. It’s fast, it’s explosive, and it leaves most defenses looking helpless.

Now Syracuse is 6-2 with a game at Wake Forest, then Louisville. I think Syracuse will beat Wake Forest, and I know they’ll beat Louisville. I shudder to think how many points Syracuse will score on Louisville’s defense. Syracuse could be 8-2 before facing Notre Dame in what could the Orange’s biggest game in recent memory.

I said this a month ago when I saw Syracuse nearly upset Clemson.

Syracuse is as explosive an offense as there is in the ACC, and don’t expect anyone else to be equipped to hold them to 23 points like Clemson did…

Now tell me this Syracuse team can’t win 8, 9 or even 10 games this season. They lost today, but a really nice season is there for the taking.

A month later and a really nice season is still right there for taking for Syracuse. Along with Virginia, they are the ACC’s most pleasant surprise.

This all thanks to Dino Babers who in his 3rd season has made Syracuse football relevant and fun again.
