Ranking the Power 5 Football Conferences after Week 2

While the playoff committee doesn’t rank the power 5 conference, there is no way conference strength – which means OOC results doesn’t figure in to a committee members thought process. Let me point out on my philosophy on these rankings – your most recent  OOC results count a lot, and you’ll see me reference that …

Quentin Harris and others are ‘next man up’ for Duke

Quentin Harris isn’t Duke’s lone “next man up” – the mantra its backups utilize to be ready – but he’s certainly the most important one. He’s the new quarterback filling in for injured starter Daniel Jones. Quarterback, of course, is the the most important position in the most intricate team game, and Duke’s players and …

Duke loses QB Daniel Jones indefinitely and CB Mark Gilbert for the season

Duke’s quick start, one of the Blue Devils weren’t shy about anticipating in fall camp, suddenly struck three injury speed bumps following impressive season-opening victories over a pair of 10-win teams, Army and Northwestern. The school announced on Sunday that All-ACC cornerback Mark Gilbert is lost for the season with a hip injury and third-year …

Is West Virginia-North Carolina State the best under-the-radar game of Week 3 | answered by @MattZemek

Give @MattZemek a twitter follow and check out his additional musings on college football  at https://www.patreon.com/Zemek.  ACC Question of the Week : Is West Virginia-North Carolina State the best under-the-radar game of Week 3? A subtext is always attached to the term “under-the-radar.” If a game is “under” the radar, most people aren’t paying close attention to it, …

Clemson survives Texas A&M, but secondary has issues.

Clemson survived a 28-26 heart stopper at Texas A&M. In front of over 100,000, Clemson doesn’t need to worry about style points, but the Aggies exposed a considerable hole in the Tigers defense… the secondary, or better yet the back seven. Kellen Mond was outstanding as the Aggie QB, throwing for over 400 yards. I …

Duke opens some eyes with win at Northwestern

An under the radar game was a significant one at Northwestern. With Miami getting rolled by LSU, and Virginia Tech dominanting at FSU we wondered if there was another Coastal Division team that could play a factor in the Division race. UNC and Virginia don’t have enough talent to be in the picture over the …

Georgia Tech blows another 4th quarter lead and not a single Jacket fan is surprised.

I’m going to put my Georgia Tech fan hat on right now. When Georgia Tech took a 38-28 4th quarter lead against South Florida, there wasn’t a single Georgia Tech fan that felt the lead was safe. They had seen this scenario play out time and time again… Tennessee, Miami, etc This ending is merely …

Florida State Opponent Preview: Samford

Samford Week One was certainly interesting, to say the least, for Florida State fans nationwide. It wasn’t quite the debut that most anticipated, myself included. Fate had a different plan, and in retrospect, our fan base (and I) should of given more respect to Virginia Tech and that Bud Foster defense. The good news: I …

Pitt gets the short end of the stick in the city of Pittsburgh.

If you want to see where Pitt ranks in the city of Pittsburgh sports pantheon all you have to see what happened to the Pitt versus Penn State game this weekend. With the fact that Pitt playing in Heinz Field, which shares a parking lot with PNC Park, where the Pirates play. The rub for …

Duke rivals Stanford and Northwestern on recruiting trail

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke football’s upward mobility from the 2-33 train wreck that David Cutcliffe inherited has allowed the school to join an exclusive club with Stanford and Northwestern as academically elite institutions consistently competing among Power 5 schools. Cutcliffe, entering his 12th year as the Blue Devils’ head coach, needed four years of rebuilding, …

Remembering Joseph Suhoski (@vabeachrep)#RIPJoe

Good afternoon, I blog with a heavy heart today as I talk about my friend, Joe Suhoski, who I think was a wonderful person (Joe was on Twitter at @vabeachrep).  Joe was only 40 years old. He passed away on Saturday, September 1, 2018, the beginning of the college football season. If you know Joe …

Bud Foster calls great game against FSU; Hokies are now team to beat in Coastal.

Just a few quick post-game thoughts. Bud Foster again proves why he’s one of the best defensive coordinators in college football. Taking an undermanned and largely inexperienced unit, he had the FSU offensive line totally confused. He rotated players, called timely blitzes and had FSU off-balance all night. It reminded me of his master-piece game …

Miami does little right and gets embarrassed by LSU

Did Miami do anything right on Sunday night because I’m drawing a blank here. I guess not quitting to make the score closer than it really was counts for someting, but in reality from Mark Richt down to the water boy, it was a completely embarrassing performance by the Hurricanes. LSU is a decent team, …
