Louisville
I wasn’t wrong about the win at least! The first quarter against Northern Illinois was demonstrative, I believe, of the potential behind the Gulf Coast offense that Willie Taggart swears by. The middle half of the Florida State game, unfortunately, produced the same errors that keep teams in the mix versus the Noles, and outright hands games over to teams that have the offensive tools to wear down the Noles defense. The game versus NIU likely could of covered 50+ in favor of the Noles, however self-inflicted mistakes and poor interpretation of the RPO resulted in a win that could of been more of a statement. Make no mistake ACC fans: NIU was the best defense, statistically, the Noles had faced thus far. The inept offense at NIU kept them from truly keeping the game close against FSU.
I would say that Louisville is going to fare better than NIU. Anyone that watched Louisville versus Virginia would tell you otherwise. I don’t say this lightly: Louisville might be not only the worst team in the ACC, they could be one of the worst teams in the Power Five. They looked completely inept against Virginia. While some might believe that Louisville might of been looking ahead, it wouldn’t be giving much credit to a Virginia squad that had a better overall W-L record than the Noles entering the game. I don’t think this 2018 FSU squad is all that good, but they’re certainly better than the squad that Louisville fields on a weekly basis.
Final Verdict
Louisville has had Florida State’s number the past couple of seasons. With Lamar Jackson masking the issues at Louisville, we now find a squad without an offensive identity and lacking the weapons or coaching at defense to stop most teams they’ll face. Florida State will be coming up wanting blood, with offensive and defensive momentum, and despite a potential look-ahead with Miami looming, not keeping their eyes off this team. I think Lousiville will score at home, but the game won’t be all that close.
Florida State: 34
Louisville: 20
