ACC Question of the Week : Of Duke, Syracuse or Boston College, which team appears to be the most legitimately good?
Boston College beat Wake Forest on the road.
Syracuse defeated Florida State at home.
Duke has handled Northwestern and Baylor on the road, Army at home.
In a normal year, Syracuse defeating Florida State handily would grab the most headlines, but we can see that Florida State is not Florida State this season. The Seminoles are a tire fire under Willie Taggart, a surprising development this early in the 2018 campaign.
Baylor is still trying to find its footing after the transfer exodus which accompanied the program’s collapse under Art Briles. Northwestern lost at home to Akron the week after losing to Duke. The Wildcats will be no better than a .500 team this year.
The Wake Forest team Boston College handled without too many problems — it might have been a blowout if the Eagles hadn’t fumbled a punt and allowed a blocked punt for a touchdown — almost lost to Tulane. That same Tulane team lost at UAB this past weekend.
Duke has the best body of work AND has overcome more injuries and overall hardships than B.C. or Syracuse. Boston College, however, has looked very authoritative — its offense is roaring, which is rare for coordinator Scot Loeffler and head coach Steve Addazio.
By process of elimination, it’s either Duke or Boston College. Given Duke’s injuries, Boston College deserves to be seen as the best team, but let’s not assume the Eagles will continue to fly once they get to October. Check in on all three teams in a month. We will see where they are then.
