When it comes to football recruiting in the ACC the past few years Clemson, Florida State and Miami typically recruit at exceptionally high level. Virginia Tech under Justin Fuente is becoming basically a top 25 recruiting fixture. In 2018 some ACC schools (NC State, Boston College and Virginia) not known for their recruiting prowess are making some serious moves.
Blog contributor @JamesIV1978 took notice on the Wolfpack’s recruiting a couple of weeks ago in his article “NC State recruiting is on a roll”. Since that article, NC State has added 3 more recruits including 4 star DT C.J Clark of New London, NC. Remember a few years ago when North Carolina product Trevor Lawrence got away from NC State and ended up at Clemson? This time Dave Doeren and the Wolfpack kept the local DT in-state fighting off the likes of Alabama, Georgia, and Penn State.
Even Louisville media are getting a little nervous.
Looking like NC State will bury Louisville in this recruiting cycle if things don’t pick up soon. https://t.co/KU9a3hH2Ta

The Wolfpack look poised to put together back to back top 30 classes. As recently as 2017, NC State couldn’t even crack the top 50.
Boston College has rarely put together highly rated classes. Steve Addazio has been steady as head coach. BC was well coached, but they simply overall weren’t very talented. That could be changing. Both 247 and Rivals have the Eagles current class ranked in the top 30. A couple of 4 star players were signed this week in LB Tommy Eichenberg and RB Patrick Garwo. Just one year ago, BC had the lowest ranked class in the ACC. Boston College has made a big leap this year.
Virginia might have the most stunning class in the ACC. Let’s not mince words here, the Hoos have arguably been the ACC’s worst program of the decade. They have just 1 winning season this decade and the re-emergence of Virginia Tech plus the long losing streak to the Hokies isn’t helping. Head coach Bronco Mendenhall has plenty of obstacles in recruiting, but he’s working wonders. The Hoos are staring at a top 35 class that could end up in the top 25.
June 22 saw 5 commitments for the Hoos including 4 star players DT Jowon Briggs and LB Hunter Stewart.
Don’t let anyone tell you different, more often than not successful teams are built through strong recruiting. NC State, Boston College, are Virginia are certainly making some strides so far in 2018.
