Jameis Winston is in trouble again. The former FSU star led the Seminoles to the 2013 National Title, and he won a Heisman Trophy. On his athletic achievements alone, he’s one of the most celebrated players in the ACC and Florida State history. Despite at best putting himself into questionable situations, while in Tallahassee Jameis Winston just couldn’t keep away from controversy.
When the Tampa Buccaneers drafted Jameis Winston there was hope by the Bucs he’d left “controversy” often surrounding him behind. He was given the benefit the doubt. After Winston’s recent 3 game suspension by the NFL for allegedly sexually assaulting an Uber driver, he will no longer be given the benefit of the doubt. That’s not me saying that, that’s the Tampa Bay Times newspaper. In a separate article, they even say it’s time to move on from Winston.
Winston’s strongest critics don’t think he should have ever played down of NFL football, and he does have a checkered past. That’s undeniable.
Here is what we know for sure about Jameis Winston. Even his biggest supporters have to admit this – Winston isn’t going to get anymore chances after this latest incident. According to YahooSports…
“A failure either to obtain the evaluation or to cooperate with treatment will result in further discipline,” the league said in its statement, according to NFL.com. “In addition, a future violation of the personal conduct policy will result in more substantial discipline, including a potential ban from the NFL.”
Coming out college an NFL team was willing to take a chance on him, and if it wasn’t Tampa Bay it would have been someone else. Now no NFL team will want any of the additional baggage Winston will bring with another incident. He’s a 3 year starting quarterback who’s thrown 44 interceptions, and never led Tampa Bay to the playoffs. He’s shown some raw ability, but that is the reality. Nobody is giving an average QB another shot after this.
There it is Jameis. It’s on you now to salvage your career – you won’t get another shot. I hope for Jamies Winston’s sake he understands the severity and likely consequences if he’s associated with another similar incident.
