Loyola Chicago’s run to the Final 4 means the College Football Playoffs should expand. Over and over and I see this all over twitter.
Loyola-Chicago is exactly why college football should expand its playoff to eight teams. Why shouldn’t unbeaten Central Florida be given a chance? #moredemocratic

Loyola Chicago has the opportunity to win the National Championship! Now tell me why it is so hard for the NCAA to figure out the College football playoff format? UCF was robbed of the same opportunity smh #NCAATournament

.Tremendous impact. It happens eventually. 8 is the optimum number, and it’s being fought by the usual elitists. Guaranteed in MY lifetime it happens. Why? Not to help the mid majors but to make more $ for all! Regardless of the ratings now, the ESPN investment leaves $ on table.

College Basketball has over 300 teams playing at the Division 1 level. The beauty of the NCAA Tournament is that every single one of them has a shot to get into the Big Dance. You can argue too many mid-majors are left out, but they still had the opportunity to get in. Loyola Chicago might be playing in the Missouri Valley Conference, but that’s a 32 win team. How do I know that’s not the best team in college basketball? They may yet win the national title.
In college football it continues to irk me that the Power 5 conferences have locked out the Group of 5 schools. There are over 130 FBS schools and basically half are eliminated from the playoffs before the season starts. I don’t care how it happens but the Group of 5 schools need someway into the college football playoff. Either with an 8 team playoff, and the 5 Power 5 Champs + 2 Wild Card Teams + Best Group of 5, or 7 highest ranked power 5 schools + Best Group of 5 team.
You can expand the playoffs by 1 team, and make the 4 seed play the top Group of 5 team, rather than giving give your 4 seed a defacto home game ala Alabama this year. Until the Group of 5 has an avenue into the playoff format, college football’s post-season won’t come close to college basketball’s.
