Louisville and Notre Dame making their NCAA case Wednesday at #ACCTourney

Before the night is over, we could be adding Syracuse to this list, but Wednesday at the ACC Tournament Louisville and Notre Dame started making their case to be included in the NCAA tournament.

Earlier this week, I looked at how the ACC tournament would affect each ACC teams NCAA chances. Louisville and Notre Dame have done what I thought would be enough to get them in the field. This what I wrote about Louisville and Notre Dame before the ACC Tournament started.

(47) Louisville (19-12) (9-9) – ACC Tournament Seed 9

Win 0 ACC Tournament Games: OUT

I don’t like Louisville’s NCAA chances if they don’t beat FSU

Win 1 ACC Tournament Game : Projected NCAA Seed – 11

The Cards are dancing, but it is close.

Wins 2 ACC Tournament Games : Projected NCAA Seed – 10

No worries here!

Win 3 ACC Tournament Games : Projected NCAA Seed – 8

Into the 8/9 game…

Win 4 ACC Tournament Games : Projected NCAA Seed – 6

Win the ACC Tournament and Louisville could move as a high as a 6 seed.

(66) Notre Dame (18-13) (8-10) – ACC Tournament Seed 10

Win 0 ACC Tournament Games: Projected NCAA Seed – OUT

If the Irish could have that Miami home loss back…

Win 1 ACC Tournament Game : Projected NCAA Seed – OUT

Beating Pitt does nothing for a NCAA resume.

Wins 2 ACC Tournament Games : Projected NCAA Seed – 11

Notre Dame sneaks in!

Win 3 ACC Tournament Games : Projected NCAA Seed – 10

Lock city

Win 4 ACC Tournament Games : Projected NCAA Seed – 8

From no NCAAs to an 8 seed…

Win 5 ACC Tournament Games : Projected NCAA Seed – 7

The ACC Champs earn a 7 seed.

Lets start with Louisville. The Cardinals now sit 20-12 without a loss outside the top 75. They own wins over Florida State (twice) and Virginia Tech (twice). ESPN seems to think Louisville is in. Remember Louisville is .9 seconds from being a stone cold lock, if they had beat Virginia last week. Does .9 make or break you as an at-large NCAA tournament. I don’t think so.

What about Notre Dame?

They are now 20-13 with wins over Wichita State, Virginia Tech, Florida State and NC State. Notre Dame is a truly interesting case because of the injury to Bonzi Colson. You have to ask yourself are they one of the best 36 at large teams in country when he is healthy – which he is now. The answer is yes. With Bonzi Colson, Notre Dame won the Maui Invitational against field that featured Wichita State and Big 10 Champion Michigan.

I can’t disagree with this…

It is easy though in the end for Louisville and Notre Dame. If they want to take any guesswork about their NCAA selection, Louisville can defeat Virginia and Notre Dame can defeat Duke on Thursday then they are locks for the NCAA tournament.

I still feel like Louisville and Notre Dame made a strong case to get in Wednesday even if they pull off those wins.
