@DavidTeelatDP is right to call Virginia Duke a game to savor.

Saturday afternoon 2 PM, the ACC’s game of the year and arguably the regular season national game of the year will be played on CBS. It’s Virginia and Duke. Esteemed ACC writer @DavidTeelatDP   calls it a game to savor in a recent piece he wrote.  He’s right too. From his article…

How will No. 2 Virginia manage the cauldron that is Cameron Indoor Stadium? Can its swarming interior defense simultaneously contain two versatile post players?

And what of Duke’s four acclaimed freshmen? How will they respond to a defense unlike any they’ve seen at this, or any, level?

He also wrote Thursday – how the Contrasting styles of Duke and Virginia have never been more compelling.

Duke leads the nation in scoring at 91.7 points per game. Virginia leads the nation in scoring defense at 51.6 points per game….

…The Blue Devils are the ACC’s most gifted team. The Cavaliers are the league’s most cohesive team.

ESPN College Gameday for some reason is at an un-ranked Kentucky playing a West Virginia team that has lost 3 of their last 4 games. That’s a game that’s mildly interesting, but Gameday should have went to Durham for obvious reasons.

This is a game that I’ve circled on my calendar and am blocking out the afternoon to watch. After watching Virginia several times this year, I’m convinced this is Tony Bennett’s strongest team. Virginia is the nation’s best defensive team, and as we said on the blog a week ago…

said this year’s team has balanced scoring. Multiple Virginia players are capable of hitting double figure points in a game.

And if you’re not paying attention, you may not realize Virginia is very capable of knocking a down couple of 3’s and a transition bucket and putting together 7 to 8 pt – 0 runs. That’s like a 15-0 for most teams, because of Virginia’s defense.

Now Duke – In 5 to 10 minute spurts, they can play at a level I haven’t seen any other team in the country match. They’ve had 2nd half comebacks against the likes of Michigan State, Miami, and Florida.

They are a wonderfully talented team, and Marvin Bagley III is the country’s most dominant freshman outside of Oklahoma’s Trae Young.

There are so many story lines in this game. Can Duke’s young team handle the Virginia defense? Is Virginia for real? The title of best team in the ACC and maybe the country is stake.

Oh I can’t wait for this one. Enjoy Kentucky West Virginia – ESPN Gameday, everyone else will be talking about this game.
