Top 15 Matchup Between Virginia Tech and Miami marks rare ACC occurrence.

When #13 Virginia Tech faces off with #10 Miami Saturday it will mark a rare ACC occurrence. For ACC fans the hope is that this doesn’t become so rare. For only the 3rd time since 2007, an ACC matchup of top 15 will not have at least one of Florida State or Clemson playing in the game. The two previous times since 2007 were these games.

#9 Virginia Tech 14 #2 Boston College 10 October 25, 2007

#12 Virginia Tech 31 #9 Miami 7 September 26, 2009

As the ACC tries maintain status as a top tier football conference you need to see highly ranked matchups that don’t always feature Clemson or Florida State. It shows the depth of the conference. This Virginia Tech vs Miami game also major playoff implications.

This is what John Swofford always hoped for when the ACC expanded years ago to include Virginia Tech and Miami.
