@dennisdoddcbs and @dcaraviello call out SI Kid’s Reporter at NCAAs, then have to apologize.

Martin

You know that filter in your head that stops you from saying what you are thinking? For a couple of members of the sports media, that little filter apparently stopped working. @dcaraviello of the @PostandCourier and @dennisdoddcbs of CBSSports.com had these comments about about a SI Kid Reporter asking questions at the NCAA Tournament.

At best this was a poorly worded misunderstanding. At worst, well that’s obvious. Caraviello makes an an inappropriate condescending tweet about a kid reporter. To his credit, he does make an apology.

What did Dobbs say?

Yikes this is cringe worthy. Thank goodness he thought better of his comments.

What did the kid ask, though that got Caraviello and Dobbs initially so out of sorts?

Q. Your team clearly won the defensive battle tonight. When you coach and teach your team defense, what’s more important, technique or attitude?

FRANK MARTIN: First of all, a lot of respect to you. That’s a heck of a question. I’ve been doing this a long time and that’s the first time anyone’s ever asked me that. That’s a heck of a question.

. Congratulations on an outstanding OT win and a career night. I know you have a strong relationship with your mom. I believe she was here tonight. How much did that mean to you?

KEVAUGHN ALLEN: It means a lot when she comes to the game, just knowing that she can’t get to all the games when we’re in Gainesville. And her coming tonight means a lot.

Q. How much credit do you give her for your career night?

KEVAUGHN ALLEN: She raised me the right way, so I give her all the credit for the night, just the way that she raised me and just the young man that I grew up to be.

Um those look like pretty darned good questions to me. I really don’t see what the problem was for these media members, or what prompted their initial reactions. I tweeted this earlier in the day.

You keep doing what you’re doing young man. When a no-nonsense veteran Head Coach like Frank Martin says this, you’re doing just fine.
