With the ACC Basketball Regular season nearing an end, the ACC Coach of Year award is still up for grabs.
My podcast partner @Hokiesmash_ASD and I ( @TalkinACCSports ) put together who we think should be the top candidates for the award.
Jim Larranga – Miami
Coach L loses 5 starters off his sweet 16 team – and he has this team in the NCAA tournament (beats Duke and UNC in the same year).
Josh Pastner -Georgia Tech
We know what he’s done with a roster that has considerably less talent than other ACC teams. He had the Georgia Tech on the verge of an improbable NCAA bid, though it looks like the Jackets will finish just short of that achievement.
Buzz Williams – Virginia Tech
He’s done a great job – if he ends up 11-7 (which is very possible), he will really enhance his chances. He’s got Virginia Tech back in the Big Dance for the first time since 2007
Roy Williams – North Carolina
Ole Roy has navigated a a brutal ACC, to win with his 8th ACC Regular Season title. North Carolina was expected to be good, but winning the ACC should count for something.
Rick Pitino – Louisville
Despite a wealth of injuries during a good portion of the conference season, Louisville is looking at a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament with a 1 seed still a possibility. The injuries didn’t stop Rick Pitino from making Louisville a top 10 team.
