If you have heard, lots of things are happening in Atlantic Coast Conference country. John Swofford and member institutions announced that the conference will relocate all neutral site championships for the 2016-17 academic year.
That was not surprising as the ACC is basically following the NCAA’s lead. As such, we have a few recommendations for John Swofford on where to relocate these 2016-17 neutral site championships (I try to be fair and spread the wealth on hosting opportunities). Here we go:
ACC Sport |
Date |
Old Location of Neutral Site Championship |
Proposed New Location |
Rationale |
Women’s Soccer |
November 4 and 6, 2016 |
Cary, NC |
Louisville, KY |
By far, Louisville has the best soccer facility in the ACC and would be ready to host this event at the drop of a hat. Louisville has a top-notch Athletic Director in Tom Jurich and the event would be as smooth as one could dream. |
Football |
December 3, 2016 |
Charlotte, NC |
Landover, MD (Redskins Stadium) |
The greater Washington, DC area has been a great friend to the ACC – and just recently, the Verizon Center hosted the ACC basketball tournament. Danny Snyder and the Redskins would jump at the opportunity to host the ACC football title game. |
Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving |
February 15-18, 2017 |
Greensboro, NC |
Charlottesville, VA |
The University of Virginia has a prior history of hosting the ACC Swimming and Diving Championship – and could easily do so again. |
Women’s Basketball |
March 1-5, 2017 |
Greensboro, NC |
Louisville, KY |
Louisville’s Yum Center is one of the best collegiate gymnasiums in the ACC. Louisville also has plenty of hotels and it’s really easy to fly into the city. |
Women’s Golf |
April 21-23, 2017 |
Greensboro, NC |
Clemson, SC |
|
Men’s Golf |
April 21-23, 2017 |
New London, NC |
Blacksburg, VA (Radford, VA) |
The Pete Dye River Course in Southwest Virginia – right along the New River – would be a picturesque beautiful location for the Men’s Golf title. |
Men’s and Women’s Tennis |
April 26-30, 2017 |
Cary, NC |
Atlanta, GA |
The Peachtree Tennis Center would be a homerun to host ACC men’s and women’s tennis. |
Baseball |
May 23-28, 2017 |
Durham, NC |
Scranton, PA |
Thank you to @CougarTrainee for the recommendation on the Hilton Suites. The 570 has the perfect number of hotels in Scranton, restaurants in Scranton, etc. and can easily handle an ACC baseball crowd. |
And there you have it 😉

I’m with you on most of these, but I’d like to make a couple of counter proposals:
Baseball – why not Myrtle Beach, SC? It would make for a fun trip!
Football – I like FedEx Field, but I’m intrigued by Met-Life Stadium
