This week’s ACC power rankings saw plenty of shakeups after some wild and unexpected results in Week Five. That probably means they are very, very, very wrong and will be proven as such in Week Six. Nonetheless, I’m here to bring them to you, so here they are!
1. Clemson – Hey, Twitter, you know what is really cute? When you say something is happening, like, say, a #Clemsoning, and then it DOESN’T HAPPEN. Chill with that, Twitter. We don’t need that negativity in our lives.
2. Florida State – The Seminoles got all they could handle from a road game at Wake Forest, but ultimately came away with the victory.
3. Duke – Duke’s victory over Boston College was bowling shoe ugly, with kicker Ross Martin scoring all nine points. It’s still a win, though,
4. North Carolina – The Tar Heels did the inconceivable last week – winning a football game in Atlanta. UNC had won a Peach Bowl more recently than they had defeated Georgia Tech on the road before last Saturday.
5. Louisville – Louisville can see the light at the end of the tunnel that is their murderer’s row of a first-half schedule. They’ll get an extra week to prepare for Florida State after knocking off NC State.
6. Pittsburgh – Qadree Ollison continues to thrive in the Panthers offense, racking up 121 yards and a touchdown against Virginia Tech. Imagine what that backfield would have looked like if Ollison could have tandemed with a healthy James Conner.
7. Georgia Tech – “Well, that’s fantastic. We can take that 21-point lead against a team you have historically dominated at home annnnnnnnnnnnnnd it’s gone.” “What?” “It’s gone.”
8. NC State – The Wolfpack suffered its first loss of the season in what some critics would all its first game of the season. It will be interesting to see how NC State fares this week against Virginia Tech …
9. Virginia Tech – … especially since the Hokies suffered another exhibition loss last week. Wait, Pittsburgh is a conference opponent? Well, dang.
10. Miami – The Miami Hurricanes football account tweeted out a charming link for FSU fans earlier this week. I bet they could also send their game against Cincinnati into a black hole.
11. Syracuse – Syracuse returns from a bye week to face South Florida this week in Tampa. You have to believe the Orange will fare well in Florida. It’s like a second home for them. This is quite a juicy matchup. I’ll stop now.
12. Boston College – The Eagles were successful in preventing Duke from scoring a touchdown in Durham last week, but were unsuccessful in outscoring the Blue Devils. Fortunately, BC returns home this week to renew its vaunted rivalry with …
13. Wake Forest – … the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. When these two teams meet, you throw the records out the window.
14. Virginia – I’d love to know what Mike London worked on during this bye week. Perhaps updating his resume, cleaning his handgun, shining up his badge. Perhaps a way to slow down Pittsburgh, or at least tackle more people than they did against Boise State. We’ll see.
Until next week, peace, love, and #goacc.
