Some are calling it game changer. Some are are trying to temper the enthusiasm. When Everett Golson chose to transfer from Florida State, it was definitely a significant move. I’m not entirely convinced Golson is a game changer myself yet. He’s turns the ball over too much, and remember he was the starter last year at Notre Dame, but ended up sharing time with Malik Zaire. That said he’s mobile and has talent, and under the tutelage of Jimbo Fisher who’s quickly becoming known as QB guru, he may just shine. He did led Notre Dame to the 2013 BCS national championship game, so he’s got big game experience too.
For me the key is that the Seminoles got huge boost to their depth at the quarterback position. Sean Maguire looked like the starter, but Golson can certainly challenge for the starting position. Competition is going to be created and that’s never a bad thing. If Golson out performs Maguire, Fisher won’t think twice about putting Golson out there. There’s no loyalty for years served for Maguire, nor should there be. Jimbo Fisher’s job is start the player that give Florida State the best chance to win.
