Good evening, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans. 66 days out until the first ACC football game 😉 Until then, Jeff (@TalkinACCSports) and I (@HokieSmash) have great content on the site to keep you going.
We are on the morning of one of the biggest games in the history of World Cup and international play for USA Soccer. Dubbed as the “Group of Death” before the World Cup started – this is now a group that the USA can win (!!!!). While the USA can get to the knock-out stage without a win vs. Germany (at 12 PM EST/11 AM CST on ESPN), it’s generally the American way to go for the win (and most of us wouldn’t want it any other way).
Two former ACC soccer players are on the U.S. Men’s national team roster, including:
-
Alejandro Bedoya – Bedoya played two years at Boston College, earning All-America honors and was named a Herman Award semifinalist both seasons. He was awarded senior Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors at Boston College’s All-Sports Banquet in May 2009.
-
Omar Gonzalez – Gonzalez was was a standout at the University of Maryland (we can talk about Maryland until June 30), winning the NCAA title in 2008 – and he entered the MLS draft after his junior season.
Good luck to these former ACC soccer players as they represent their country in the 2014 World Cup vs. Germany!!!!
