What an epic day in college football it was. Auburn with their improbable incredible victory over Alabama on a return for a touchdown off a missed FG. Michigan failing to make a 2 pt conversion which resulted in a 42-41 win for Ohio State. The results put the Buckeyes in the position for the national title game. It was great stuff today. If Florida State and Ohio State win next week in their conference championship games it should be the Seminoles and Buckeyes playing for it all. #1 and #2 in the title game…
They are the only 2 undefeated untied teams from the power 5 conferences. Sounds great, things worked out perfectly, not so for the SEC apologists who are beside themselves that we are one week from a national title game without a SEC team. Please really stop the whining it’s unbecoming.
Moments after Auburn won their game this gem came from the Auburn AD. The entire articles can be found at USA Today.
“And a one-loss SEC team that wins in Atlanta — if it’s us or Missouri — you can’t get left out of the BCS after you beat the No. 1 team. We have a better argument because we beat the No. 1 team.”
Sorry I hate to break it to the Auburn AD Jay Jacobs and SEC apologists around the country, that’s not the way it works. You lose and you are left to the whim of the computers and voters. If you read this blog you know that I’ve questioned Ohio State the entire year. In my personal opinion I’d probably call the them the 5th or 6th best team in the country , but they shouldn’t be denied the right to play for the national title. They haven’t lost in 2 years. Florida State hasn’t won a game by less than 14 points the entire season.
We can debate the merits of their schedule and who’ve they’ve beat. I won’t argue that a SEC schedule was tougher than this years Big 10 and ACC, but that doesn’t matter in the end. If Florida State or Ohio State loses then the SEC’s top 1 loss gets the benefit of the doubt, and I’m fine with that. I’m OK with a 1 loss Auburn Missouri or Alabama getting in over a 1 loss team from another conference. Until that time though Florida State and Ohio State should be playing for the title game, and SEC apologists can stop with the politicking.
