ACC Bowl Projections for November 24, 2013

ACC_1

With Baylor and Oregon losing do realize that a Clemson vs Florida State national title isn’t out of the question? Looks who is #4 in the Coaches poll… That’s Clemson. If they beat South Carolina, and Ohio State and Alabama loses, then it will all come down to those final computer rankings and Clemson would be right there. John Swofford’s master plan is coming together.

* The Kraft Fight Hunger could be a bowl destination if the ACC gets a 9th bowl eligible team, but only if BYU and the Pac 12 can’t fulfill their commitment to the bowl.

Fri, Dec 27 2:30 pm ESPN
Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman
Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, Annapolis, MD
C-USA vs. ACC No. 8

Projected Matchup: Maryland vs Marshall

Maryland should finish 7-5 since they get to play NC State to end the season. I’m mean everybody beats the Wolfpack these days. Should they lose Pittsburgh may get this slot. The Panthers will be bowling somewhere.

Belk Bowl
Bank of America Stadium, Charlotte, NC
AAC No. 3 vs. ACC No. 5

Projected Matchup: North Carolina vs Cincinnati

North Carolina is red hot and they are playing well enough to beat upstart Duke in Chapel Hill. The Belk bowl would love have North Carolina here.

Sat, Dec 28 6:45 pm ESPN

Russell Athletic Bowl
Florida Citrus Bowl, Orlando, FL
ACC No. 3 vs. AAC No. 2

Projected Matchup: Miami vs. Louisville

The Hurricanes finally stopped their freefall by beating Virginia this past weekend. The Chick Fil A is still in play for them if they beat Pittsburgh this upcoming week. If they lose I’d be surprised if the Russell Athletic Bowl lets them fall past them.

Mon, Dec 30 3:15 pm ESPN

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl
LP Field, Nashville, TN
SEC No. 7 vs. ACC No. 6

Projected Matchup: Boston College vs Vanderbilt

Boston College is gradually moving up the bowl board. The Eagles Andre Williams is now getting mentioned some Heisman discussions. If BC beats Syracuse to finish 8-4 and on a 5 game winning streak, I could see them getting Sun Bowl consideration.

Tue, Dec 31 12:30 pm ESPN

AdvoCare V100 Bowl
Independence Stadium, Shreveport, LA
ACC No. 7 vs. SEC

Projected Matchup: Georgia Tech vs Notre Dame

I’m leaving Notre Dame here for the moment, but there’s no telling who the Independence Bowl will gets. The SEC won’t be able to fill all their spots. Georgia Tech can enhance their bowl destination if they beat a UGA team that will be without QB Aaron Murray.

Tue, Dec 31 2 pm CBS

Hyundai Sun Bowl
Sun Bowl, El Paso, TX
ACC No. 4 vs. Pac-12 No. 4

Projected Matchup: Virginia Tech vs Arizona St.

I’ve seen a couple of projections that had USC here. Do you really think the Sun Bowl is going to invite Trojans back after the way that team disrespected their bowl last year unless they absolutely have to?

Tue, Dec 31 8 pm ESPN

Chick-fil-A Bowl
Georgia Dome, Atlanta, GA
ACC No. 2 vs. SEC No. 5

Projected Matchup: Duke vs South Carolina

This becomes a tougher choice if Miami beats Pittsburgh and Duke loses to UNC next week. South Carolina ends up here if they lose to Clemson, but if they win Texas A&M or Ole Miss are possibilities.

Fri, Jan 3 TBD ESPN

Discover Orange Bowl
Sun Life Stadium, Miami Gardens, FL
BCS vs. BCS (ACC champion if not in BCS championship)

Projected Matchup: Clemson vs Wisconsin

Unless Clemson loses by 100 to South Carolina and Florida State loses, the Tigers are set for the Orange Bowl. Ranked 4th in coaches poll, even a loss to South Carolina won’t drop the Tigers lower than 11th or 12th in the country. I still like Wisconsin here. Michigan State is also a possibility or maybe Ohio State if they lose in the Big 10 Title game.

Mon, Jan 6 8:30 pm ESPN

VIZIO BCS National Championship
Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA
BCS No 1 vs. BCS No 2

Projected Matchup: Florida State vs Alabama

Florida State gets to play a Florida team that just lost Georgia Southern. The Noles will never get a better chance to destroy the Gators in the Swamp. Alabama stays until someone beats them.
