Happy Columbus Day – Atlantic Coast Conference Football Power Poll – October 14, 2013

ACC_1

Good evening everyone – from All Sports Discussion.  Hope you all had a great Columbus Day Weekend.  We got you covered for great Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports coverage – as my friend Jeff (@TalkinACCSports) we love sports – but we’re even bigger fans of the ACC.

It’s our third week operating the All Sports Discussion ACC football power poll.  As we head into Week 8, we find ourselves very disappointed with most of the conference’s teams from North Carolina.

Without further ado, here’s our poll:

  1. Florida State – I realize that I might be on an island by myself (realize, I picked Florida State to win the ACC titleand picked Florida State to defeat Clemson – and we’ll talk about this game between the Seminoles and the Tigers in a big way on the podcast this week), but I think Seminoles are the best team in the conference.  Jameis Winston, today, is the ACC’s best player.

  1. Clemson – Clemson was too tentative on offense this week – had a difficult time stopping the Boston College running game – and played an Eagles team that clearly isn’t coached by Frank Spaziani anymore.  Clemson isn’t playing at the top of their game before this key ACC contest with Florida State – and that’s not a good sign.  To be fair, the Tigers did win – the played a bad game and won – they survived and advanced

  1. Miami – Canes had a bye this week – and their coaching staff had better be looking at Virginia Tech’s defense – because it’s awesome.

  1. Virginia Tech – Virginia Tech had eight sacks (!!!!!) vs. Pittsburgh – and Frank Beamer thinks his squad missed on eight!! (h/t @AndyBitterVT)  You’ve heard the #DunkCity Twitter hashtag as it relates to Florida Gulf Coast University.  Virginia Tech football player, Luther Maddy, said the Hokies D line should be #SackCity (tweets later in the blog post).  The defense alone will keep Virginia Tech in the game vs. Miami (and every other game this year).  The only reason I did not put the Hokies ahead of Miami is because the offense keeps stalling at critical times.

  1. Maryland – The Terps played and won a massively ugly game vs. Virginia.  The Terps are one game away from bowl eligibility.  Raise your hand if you had that prospect this early in the season.

  1. Boston College – My apologies to all Boston College bloggers and fans for severely underrating your team last week.  Steve Adazio has changed the culture on Chestnut Hill – it really shows you what a coaching change can do. Adazio is not only winning, but is performing better with Frank Spaziani’s players.

  1. Pittsburgh – Paul Chryst has to get that offensive line in order.  The ACC’s Commonwealth Teams, Virginia Tech and Virginia, had a total of 16 sacks vs. the Panthers.

  1. Georgia Tech – The Jackets got smacked around by BYU, but so did Texas (and I ask myself, how in the heck did BYU lose to UVA?!?!?!  I still don’t know how that happened – other than BYU getting infected by that #GoACC lifestyle).  Site owner, @TalkinACCSports, said it best – see his tweet below the poll on Paul Johnson.

  1. Duke – We can’t ignore the Blue Devils win vs. Navy.  That was pretty big.  Next week, the Blue Devils play Virginia.  Duke is 3-1 in their last four games vs. Virginia and we think they will win that one.   @DukeBlogMKline better be getting hotel reservations in Annapolis, MD for the Military Bowl.

  1. Syracuse – The Orange got a big win in a hostile road environment.  Welcome to the ACC, Syracuse.  You have become accustomed to that #GoACC lifestyle – with the positive #GoACC on your side of the coin.

  1. Wake Forest – Very quietly, WR Michael Campanaro – the ACC WR no one knows about – is putting together a stellar senior season.

  1. NC State – Last week, we mentioned that #NCStateSheeeet was in full effect.  it continued this week in the Wolfies loss at home vs. Syracuse.  @UMWolfPack87 has a nice retweet of @WXMoose in our tweet section below.

  1. North Carolina – The Tar Heels didn’t lose in the bye week. Coincidentally, in that same tweet, @UMWolfPack87 also addressed the Tar Heels.

  1. Virginia –  The Hoos got their offense going this week – their defense wasn’t going this week.
