Quick Thoughts on Florida State’s ACC Title win Over Georgia Tech.

This will be a short post tonight, but I wanted to put some thoughts down on what I saw tonight in Charlotte, NC.

First it was a heckuva effort by Georgia Tech. When they got down 21-3, it looked like there were going to get humiliated. In the 2nd half they played with a defensive effort and intensity that I haven’t seen all year. The Jackets went to an aggressive blitzing package that really threw the Seminoles off balance. Hint for Paul Johnson… You don’t have alot talent on defense. Blitzing so much is risky, but it can help make up for those talent deficiencies ala the Jon Tenuta defenses at Georgia Tech a few years ago. Make this your standard package until you get better talent.

For Florida State, it wasn’t pretty. I thought the FSU fans around me were going to strangle Jimbo Fisher if they had lost. Here’s the thing… Florida State has been good but not great for a number of years. In the last couple of years the talent has improved and the record has too, but the Noles still lost games they shouldn’t have. The Seminoles aren’t dominant but they are learning how to win and the number of inexplicable losses is shrinking. I’ve always though winning breeds winning. Now the Seminoles have an ACC title, and an Orange Bowl berth. They aren’t there yet, but FSU is getting very close to being great again.
