ACC Bowl Projections for November 28, 2011

With only a week left in the college regular season, there’s still some unsettled business for ACC bowl teams. The result of the ACCCG will affect the bowl destinations of 3 to 4 teams.

Let’s go with the streaking Virginia Tech to emerge victorious over the reeling Clemson Tigers.

Advocare V100 Independence Bowl
December 26, 2011  Shreveport, LA, 5:00 pm ESPN
Mountain West No. 3 vs. ACC No. 7
Projection: Wyoming vs. Wake Forest

Whoah Wake Forest what was that against Vanderbilt? Any remote chance of a better bowl than the Independence is history.

Belk Bowl
December 27, 2011  Charlotte, NC, 8:00 pm ESPN
Big East No. 3 vs. ACC No. 5
Projection: Rutgers vs. North Carolina St.

The Belk Bowl breathed a sigh of relief when NC State came back to defeat Maryland. Your guess is as good as mine who comes out of the Big East.

Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman
December 28, 2011  Washington, DC, 4:30 pm ESPN
ACC No. 8 vs. Navy (or C-USA if Navy not eligible)
Projection:  North Carolina vs. Air Force

Everett Withers has done a credible job this this year at North Carolina. I hope he gets a fair shot at the head coaching position.

Champs Sports Bowl
December 29, 2011 Orlando, FL, 5:30 pm ESPN
ACC No. 3 vs. Big East No. 2
Projection: Clemson vs. Notre Dame

The Champs really wanted Florida State, but Clemson’s late season collapse moved the Noles up. The Tigers could slip to the Sun, but I doubt it.

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl
December 30, 2011   Nashville, TN, 6:40 pm ESPN
ACC No. 6 vs. SEC No. 7
Projection: Virginia vs Vanderbilt

I think this is nice matchup between two teams on the rise. Virginia can get to 9 wins with a victory.

Hyundai Sun Bowl
December 31, 2011  El Paso, TX, 2:00 pm CBS
ACC No. 4 vs. Pac-12 No. 4
Projection: Georgia Tech vs Arizona St.

New coach for nearby Arizona St. The Sun Bowl has made it clear they want Georgia Tech if they can.

Chick-fil-A Bowl
December 31, 2011 Atlanta, GA, 7:30 pm ESPN
ACC No. 2 vs. SEC No. 3, 4 or 5
Projection: Florida St. vs Auburn

Does anyone really think the Chick Fil A bowl takes a Clemson team that would be on a 3 game losing streak? Me either… Now if Virginia Tech loses the ACCCG they would end up here, and FSU goes to the Champs.

Discover Orange Bowl
January 4, 2012  Miami Gardens, FL, 8:00 pm ESPN
ACC No. 1 vs. BCS at-large
Projection: Virginia Tech vs. West Virginia
