ACC Bowl Projections for November 14, 2011

The Bowl picture is starting to come into focus for the ACC and it’s top 5 conference teams Clemson, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and Virginia. After that there’s a several teams  jockying for position, and it’s wide open.

Thanks to Wake Forest blogger BloggerSoDear for pointing out a couple of corrections to me.

Advocare V100 Independence Bowl
December 26, 2011  Shreveport, LA, 5:00 pm ESPN
Mountain West No. 3 vs. ACC No. 7
Projection: Wyoming vs. Wake Forest

When folks thought you’d win 2 or 3 games like they did with Wake Forest and you make a bowl that’s a successful season.

Belk Bowl
December 27, 2011  Charlotte, NC, 8:00 pm ESPN
Big East No. 3 vs. ACC No. 4
Projection: West Virginia vs. Virginia

The Belk Bowl wants to sell tickets with regional matchups. With no North Carolina school distinguishing itself and Virginia’s recent strong play a game with West Virginia would be a lot of fun.

Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman
December 28, 2011  Washington, DC, 4:30 pm ESPN
ACC No. 8 vs. Navy (or C-USA if Navy not eligible)
Projection:  North Carolina vs. Navy

North Carolina’s likely 3-5 conference record will really hurt them.

Champs Sports Bowl
December 29, 2011 Orlando, FL, 5:30 pm ESPN
ACC No. 3 vs. Big East No. 2 <
Projection: Florida State vs. Notre Dame

Nothing is stopping this collision course, the Champs Sports Bowl might as well extend bids to FSU and Notre Dame now.

Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl
December 30, 2011   Nashville, TN, 6:40 pm ESPN
ACC No. 6 vs. SEC No. 7
Projection: Miami vs Tennessee

This would have been a great game in 1992.

Hyundai Sun Bowl
December 31, 2011  El Paso, TX, 2:00 pm CBS
ACC No. 4 vs. Pac-12 No. 4
Projection: Georgia Tech vs Arizona St.

If Georgia Tech beats Duke, they can start making reservations for El Paso. Even if they beat UGA, it would require Florida St. losing twice to get any higher.

Chick-fil-A Bowl
December 31, 2011 Atlanta, GA, 7:30 pm ESPN
ACC No. 2 vs. SEC No. 3, 4 or 5
Projection: Virginia Tech vs. Auburn

Seriously the SEC’s Chick-fil-A Bowl respresentative might be their worst in this game in recent memory. This quality bowl deserves better than a middling Auburn team.

Discover Orange Bowl
January 4, 2012  Miami Gardens, FL, 8:00 pm ESPN
ACC No. 1 vs. BCS at-large
Projection: Clemson vs. Cincinnati

I guess playing Cincinnati is better than playing Houston.
