ACC Week 6 awards. The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.

This weekend provided probably the most stunning result of the ACC Season, Wake Forest 35 Florida State 30. Guess which team ends with a good award and which one ends up with an ugly one. Wake Forest the one that most folks had winning 3-4 games this year or the Florida State team that started the season ranked in the top 10? Not to difficult to figure that one out… Now Awards time.

The Good

Gimme some respect!

It’s time to stand up and take notice of the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, after their 5 point win over the Florida State Seminoles. When I said that this was elimination week in the ACC, I didn’t expect the Deacs to eliminate the Noles from the ACC Atlantic Division the first week into October. I’ve always respected Wake Forest coach Jim Grobe. I’d argue he’s done more with less than any coach in the ACC the last se

veral years, but it seemed maybe his best days would be back in the 2006, 07 seasons. We’ll he’s got this year’s Wake Forest team 4-1 (3-0) and tied with the Clemson Tigers for the Atlantic Division lead. Wake Forest take a bow…

Play it again

Virginia Tech beat Miami in Blacksburg 38-35 in one of the best ACC games of the year. The Hokies keep alive their ACC Coastal Division hopes while Miami fell to 2-3 (0-2) and is virtually out of the division race already. Both QB’s Virginia Tech’s Logan Thomas and Miami’s QB Jacory Harris played great games in the exciting back and forth classic.

Cruise Control

Clemson didn’t exactly look razor sh

Getting Defensive
arp against Boston College, but they didn’t need to be against the lowly Eagles in the 36-14 win. QB Tajh Boyd went out with a hip injury, and his future status is a bit of a concern. Other than that, it was nice easy win for the Tigers.

North Carolina improved to 5-1 on the season after a 14-7 win over Louisville. Louisville had 1 yard rushing, that’s right 1. I’d rather have negative yardage than 1. The Tar Heels are  flying under everyone’s radar, but you better not forget about them.

Getting Even

NC State stepped out of conference and

beat Central Michigan 38-24. The win got the Wolfpack to 3-3, and with a BYE week before a game at Virginia may be able to make a 2nd half push to get bowl eligible. Mike Glennon threw for 4 touchdowns, and looks like he may be ready to live up to all those pre-season expectations.

The Bad

Where’s the Killer Instinct?

28-14, 42-14,21-3… What do those numbers mean? Those are all fourth qtr leads that Georgia Tech had before getting out scored 48-10. The Yellow Jackets have managed to win all three games including Saturday’s 21-16 win over Maryland, but what’s going on with the Yellow Jackets when they build these big leads. I sure don’t know. The competition is only going to get tougher and this trend needs to come to an end for Georgia Tech. The Jackets and Paul Johnson might want to start figuring out how to play all 4 quarters instead of just 3 and change.

Can we just end the season?

Sophomore Slump
All you need to know is after Boston College’s loss at Clemson, they fell to 1-5. The Eagles play 4 of their next 6 games on the road starting in 2 weeks at Virginia Tech. The season can’t end soon enough for the Eagles.

Maryland QB Danny O’Brien where have you gone? The reigning ACC Rookie of the year completed 1 pass for 17 yards, and that’s it. Terp coach Randy Edsall inserted C.J Brown into the lineup and he provided an instant spark and nearly led Maryland back against Georgia Tech. Can you say quarterback controversy?

The Ugly

Playing for pride and the leaves haven’t changed.

A season that started with such promise for Florida State has now turned into a complete disaster. This was the season Seminole football returned. Return? It’s the first week of October and every significant season goal Florida State set for 2011 is in flames following a devastating 35-30 loss at Wake Forest. National title, ACC Title, ACC Atlantic Division Title, they are all history. You can’t sugar coat this loss, and now Coach Jimbo Fisher is searching for answers as he tries to salvage a season that’s gone completely wrong.
