ACC 2024 Football Schedule

Miami

Here we go again. Miami looks pretty good on paper, maybe really good. Pre-season hype begins, and eventually the Canes crash and burn. Could they actually break out this year? Mario Cristobal looked like a great hire, but he is just 12-13 the last two years, with some um questionable coaching decisions like the end of the Georgia Tech game. Well, there might be something to this year’s team. Yes, I might be falling into the trap, but Cristobal did an excellent job in the portal, and there is plenty of talent to go around on the roster. It’s a critical year for Cristobal to show he’s the right man for the job in Miami.

Will Go 11-1 (7-1) if:

The Cane’s talented roster is coached to its potential. All-ACC caliber players are sprinkled all over this roster. QB Cam Ward might be the best transfer QB in the country, and RB Damien Martinez is one of the best transfer RBs. If they can get by an average Florida team in game one, it’s almost assured Miami will be 4-0 when they host Virginia Tech. A game at Louisville is tricky, of course, FSU is huge, and Georgia Tech could pose a problem, but the schedule is set up well for the Canes. They’ll be favored in at least 9 or 10 of their games, and maybe 11. It’s not about talent, it’s about whether they get the coaching to play at a level equal to their raw talent. If they do, they can reach the playoffs.

Will Go 6-6 (3-5) if:

Miami once again shows flashes, but ultimately plays loose, sloppy, and undisciplined which they seem to do year after year even with multiple coaching changes. Can Mario Cristobal coax the best out of this Miami team? We’ll see, but if he can’t they could certainly lose the opener at Florida, lose to Virginia Tech, at Louisville, Florida State, at Georgia Tech, and then get upset to someone else along the way. Their unit rankings last year for offense and defense were both top 35, and that can’t slip. Did I say it’s all about the coaching for Miami this year enough?
