Good morning, Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) sports fans.
ESPN personality, Dan Mullen, finally said what everyone in the room was thinking last night (and what we have been saying all season long on the @AllSportsDACC podcast) during halftime of the Boston College – Syracuse football game: It’s true – both Washington and Florida State schedule win and loss resumes than Georgia and Michigan. As a result, both Washington and Florida State should be ahead of Georgia and Michigan in the College Football Playoff seeding.
And it’s really not close.
You see, Georgia plays in the SEC East – so they have to prepare for maybe one difficult football game per year – the SEC Championship game, right? If you go through Georgia’s 2023 football schedule, yeah, they played no one. Their first four games of the season were vs. University of Tennessee – Martin, Ball State, South Carolina (who might actually lose today to Jacksonville State), and University of Alabama at Birmingham. They really didn’t have to break a sweat until the last day of September. Vanderbilt – who might be one of the worst Power 5 football programs – scored 20 points on Georgia (yeah the Dawgs won by 17 – but that was competitive for a while). Georgia takes no non-conference risks.
Michigan, well, they probably have an easier schedule than Georgia. Michigan took some substantial risks playing Bowling Green and UNLV (vomits). They also play a few offensively challenges Big 10 West teams – and have one major game to prepare for (since Penn State also doesn’t have any offensive capability – and yes, that’s true) in Ohio State Michigan also 100% talso takes no non-conference risks. Inquiring minds would like to know whether the Michigan cheating scandal is a distraction from their trash football schedule.
Florida State, on the other hand, got a monster out of conference win vs LSU. Like our friend, @TalkinACCSports said, they took away LSU’s sole in the second half of that game. Further, it appears that Florida State is on track to play a strong Louisville team in the ACC championship game.
We all know about Washington – I’ve been high on the Huskies all year – and it’s all there for Washington. They have the toughest November schedule in the country (it’s not close) – and it all begins tonight vs. USC (it’s a scheduled of ranked hazards left, also, in Utah and Oregon State – and I would not doubt that the Apple Cup will be a ranked match up, too). Washington smacked the doors off of Boise State – rounced Michigan State – and defeated Oregon. These is a tough sunflower row to hoe – as my uncle, a farmer, would say – because if you’re Washington, you’re also playing two teams that you ditched regarding the Pac-12 Conference future. Oregon State and Washington State will want some payback – they will want to beat down Washington. Washington’s problem – I’ve discussed this before – is the lack of even an average running game (they never needed a top 1o running game – top 50 would have sufficed). But today, they have a better resume than both Michigan and Georgia.
Thanks to Dan Mullen for finally saying what everyone is thinking – welcome to the party!
